Electrical Repair: Batteries, Alternators, Starters
Car won't start, cranks slowly, or keeps killing batteries? We test the battery, charging system and wiring to find the real cause.
Common electrical problems we fix
- Won't start or cranks slowly. Often the battery, but it can be the starter, a bad cable or a corroded connection.
- Battery light on while driving. Usually the charging system, like the alternator or its belt.
- Battery keeps dying. Something may be draining it while the car is off. We test for parasitic drains to find what's pulling power.
- Lights, windows, locks or gauges acting up. Bad grounds, blown fuses, failed switches or damaged wiring.
Louisiana heat and batteries
Heat is hard on car batteries. A battery can test fine in the spring and leave you stuck in a parking lot in August. If yours is a few years old or the car is starting slower than it used to, have it tested before it quits on you.
How we track it down
We start with the basics: test the battery, check the cables and connections, and measure what the alternator is putting out. If those check out, we dig into the circuit that's giving trouble, using the wiring diagrams for your car. Electrical problems can be tricky, especially ones that come and go, so anything you can tell us about when it happens helps a lot.
Once we find the cause, we'll explain it and what it takes to fix, and you decide.

Questions we get
How do I know if it's the battery or the alternator?
If the car won't start but runs fine after a jump, and then won't start again later, the battery or the charging system could be the cause. A battery light while driving points more toward the alternator. We test both to be sure.
Why does my battery keep dying?
An old battery, a weak alternator, a loose or corroded connection, or something drawing power while the car is off. We test for each one.
Can you fix problems that come and go?
We'll do our best. Write down when it happens, like hot or cold, wet weather, or over bumps, and tell us when you book. Those details make it much easier to find.
