Engine Repair in Metairie

If your engine is running rough, losing power, leaking or making a noise it didn't used to make, bring it to Utica Street. We'll figure out what's causing it and tell you what it takes to fix.

What we see a lot

  • Misfires and rough idle from spark plugs, ignition coils or injectors
  • Oil leaks from valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets and seals
  • Coolant leaks and overheating, including head gasket problems
  • Timing belts and timing chains, plus water pumps that are driven by them
  • Ticking, tapping or knocking noises
  • Loss of power, hesitation or stalling

We find the cause first

Engine problems can get expensive fast, so guessing isn't an option. We read the codes, look at the live data, and test what they point to. If it's a leak, we find where it's actually coming from, because oil runs downhill and the wet spot is often not the bad part.

Straight answers on big repairs

Sometimes the answer is a gasket. Sometimes it's a bigger job. If your engine needs major work, we'll tell you plainly, give you a free written estimate, and talk through whether it makes sense for the age and value of your car. It's your car and your money, and you make the call.

If the engine is overheating, see our cooling system page, and stop driving it as soon as it's safe. Driving an overheating engine is one of the fastest ways to turn a small repair into a big one.

Questions we get

My check engine light is on and the engine runs rough. Is it safe to drive?

If the light is flashing, stop driving and call us. That usually means a bad misfire that can damage the catalytic converter. If it's solid and the car drives okay, bring it in soon.

How do I know when my timing belt is due?

Your owner's manual lists the interval by miles or years. Not every engine has a belt, since many use a timing chain. Tell us your year, make, model and mileage and we'll look it up for you.

Is it worth fixing the engine in an older car?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. We give you a free written estimate and an honest opinion based on the car's condition, and you decide.
