Clutch Repair in Metairie, LA

SLIPPING, CHATTER, PEDAL FEEL. WE FIND WHICH PART.

Clutch trouble rarely shows up all at once. The engine revs but the car is slow to pick up speed, the pedal catches higher than it used to, or first gear starts to grind. Bring your manual-transmission car or truck to our Utica Street shop. Our ASE-certified technicians find which part of the clutch system is causing it, then give you a free written estimate before any work starts.

Sound familiar?

  • Slipping: engine speed climbs but road speed doesn't follow, often in higher gears or merging onto I-10
  • Chatter or shudder as you let the clutch out from a stop
  • A pedal that engages high, feels soft or spongy, or is slow to come back up
  • Grinding or trouble going into gear
  • A burning smell after stop-and-go traffic or a steep driveway

What we inspect

  • Pedal feel, free play and where the clutch engages
  • The hydraulic side: clutch master and slave cylinders, line and fluid (or the cable on older cars)
  • Leaks around the bellhousing, and how the clutch behaves on a road test when it's safe to drive
  • If the transmission comes out: the clutch disc, pressure plate, release bearing and flywheel. We inspect each one and show you what we found

Why it matters

A slipping clutch keeps getting worse, and the heat it builds wears the parts around it. A hydraulic leak can leave you with a pedal that won't release the clutch at a light. Finding the actual cause keeps the repair to what's worn and nothing more.

Approval first: what to expect

  1. Book online or call (504) 780-9804 and tell us what the clutch is doing and when it started.
  2. We check the pedal, hydraulics and engagement, and explain what we found in plain language.
  3. You get a free written estimate. Nothing is repaired until you approve it. If we find something else once the transmission is out, we call you before doing anything more.

CLUTCH REPAIR IN METAIRIE, LA: FAQ

How do I know if my clutch is slipping?

The usual sign is engine speed rising without the car speeding up to match, especially in a higher gear or under load. A burning smell often comes with it. We confirm it before we recommend anything.

Is it the clutch or the hydraulics?

A pedal that feels soft, sinks, or sticks often points to the hydraulic side (the master or slave cylinder, the line or the fluid) rather than the clutch disc. We check the hydraulics first, so you aren't replacing parts that don't need it.

Do you check the flywheel during a clutch job?

Yes. When the clutch comes out, we inspect the flywheel and tell you what we see. You decide on anything beyond the approved repair.

Can I keep driving with a slipping clutch?

It usually gets worse and can leave you stuck. If the car still drives normally otherwise, book soon. If it won't go into gear or won't release, call us instead of driving it in.

Is clutch repair covered by your warranty?

Qualifying repairs carry our 12-month/12,000-mile warranty. We'll go over the terms for your repair along with the written estimate.
